His Life

Sixty years, well spent

An engineer who could fix almost anything, a singer who led his church’s Singing Band, and a father who walked his children to school. This is his story, as his family tells it.

I

Chapter I

Early life & education

Samuel Kabu Kudadjie was born on 26th January 1966 in Accra to Mr. Cephas Tetteh Kudadjie of the Kudadjie family of Ada Foah, and Madam Florence Adei Kotey of Nii Kotey, La Klanaa We.

He began his education at Mataheko 1 & 2 Primary School and continued at Teshie Middle School, where he sat for the Common Entrance Examination. He excelled and gained admission to Wesley Grammar Secondary School. His outstanding performance there earned him a place at the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC).

From his early years, Samuel showed an extraordinary ability to fix things and to help those in need. He was inquisitive by nature, eager to understand how things worked and how they could be made to work again when they failed. His curiosity drew him into engineering, a career built on the ability to repair, build and improve the machines of our world with both hands and mind.

Determined as he was, Samuel set his path firmly towards auto mechanical engineering.

Hands and mind

Samuel graduated from ATTC with good honours and spent his working life around machines: repairing them, building them and improving them. He worked hard, rose through the ranks and was rewarded for it more than once.

His siblings put it plainly: he was a dedicated professional who never joked with his work.

In his own words

“I am a man of principles.”

He said it often, his children remember, and he lived by it. He showed them how to be confident without being arrogant, humble without being timid, and firm without being unjust.

His faith in God

“Service to mankind is service to God.”

Beyond his professional life, Samuel was a devoted Christian whose faith was central to his identity. He was baptised at John Wesley Methodist Church, Accra, and raised in a Christian home. He was confirmed at Bethlehem Methodist Church (Russia), where he joined the Youth Fellowship.

In serving the Lord he found his voice, first in the church choir and then in the Singing Band. His Christian life mirrored his career: steady, committed and growing. That commitment led him into leadership, and he served two consecutive terms as Chairman of the Singing Band. Under his leadership the group grew substantially in membership, reputation and quality.

He believed in a cause greater than himself and carried that spirit of truth and love into all his relationships.

He was known as enduring, caring and kind-hearted. The well-being of others was always a priority to him, not only his immediate family but everyone around him. He checked on people and offered help whenever he could, not through grand gestures but through practical action. For these qualities he was loved and admired by many.

Chapter IV

As a husband and father

Samuel was deeply invested in the well-being of his family. His children will remember him not only for what he provided, but for the lessons embedded in his daily life:

  1. i.the importance of helping others
  2. ii.the dignity of honest work
  3. iii.the responsibility of caring for family
  4. iv.the importance of faith

In his own words, he was a man of principles. He fulfilled what the Lord Almighty assigned him to do on earth.

A father to his children, and to everything left in his care.

He is survived by his loving wife, Madam Janet Aku Kudadjie, and three children: Aaron, Benedicta and Lilian.

Letters to Kabu

Tribute by Wife

“I saw the man behind the discipline and the strong exterior.”

My beloved Samuel,

How does a wife say goodbye to the man she shared her life with?

There are moments when words simply fail. I have tried to find the right words to describe what you meant to me, but how can I put years of love, memories, companionship and a lifetime together into a few paragraphs?

You were my husband, my companion and the father of our children. You were the man with whom I shared the joys of life, the challenges, the responsibilities, and the everyday moments that made our home what it was. You cared deeply about your family. You wanted to know that everyone was alright, and you were always ready to help whenever you could.

Your concern for others was not something you simply spoke about; it was part of who you were.

Hymns

The songs he loved to sing

He found his voice in the church choir and the Singing Band. These are the hymns chosen for his service.

Verse 1

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!O, what a foretaste of glory divine!Heir of salvation, purchase of God,born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain

This is my story, this is my song, praising my Saviour all the day long;this is my story, this is my song, praising my Saviour all the day long.

Verse 2

Perfect submission, perfect delight, visions of rapture now burst on my sight;angels descending, bring from aboveechoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Verse 3

Perfect submission, all is at rest,I in my Saviour am happy and blest;watching and waiting, looking above, filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Verse 1

When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll;whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,“It is well, it is well with my soul.”

Refrain

It is well with my soul;it is well, it is well with my soul.

Verse 2

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control:that Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and has shed his own blood for my soul.

Verse 3

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part, but the whole,is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more;praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

Verse 4

O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend;even so, it is well with my soul.

▶ Listen to this hymn

Verse 1

Captain of Israel’s host, and Guideof all who seek the land above, beneath Thy shadow we abide, the cloud of Thy protecting love;our strength, Thy grace; our rule, Thy Word;our end, the glory of the Lord.

Verse 2

By Thine unerring Spirit led,we shall not in the desert stray;we shall not full direction need, nor miss our providential way;as far from danger as from fear, while Love, almighty Love, is near.

Verse 3

We’ve no abiding city here, but seek a city out of sight;thither our steady course we steer, aspiring to the plains of light;Jerusalem, the saints’ abode, whose founder is the living God.

▶ Listen to this hymn

Verse 1

Abide with me: fast falls the eventide;the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee,Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Verse 2

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away.Change and decay in all around I see.O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

Verse 3

I need Thy presence every passing hour. What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power?Who like Thyself my guide and strength can be?Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.

Verse 4

I fear no foe with Thee at hand to bless, ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory?I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Verse 5

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes.Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.Heaven’s morning breaks and earth’s vain shadows flee;in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
